Victoria’s Secret Clothing- Quality or not?

Updated on April 7, 2011

Most of you will visit your local Victoria’s Secret stores and will find a wide range of bras, panties, negligee, and beauty care products. Many of you will find swimwear, few of you will find clothing products, and even fewer of you will find shoes, sandals and flip-flops at your local VS store.

ALL of you however, will realize that the Victoria’s Secret television advertisements focus on their lingerie, and give you no insight into their clothing collection. I have written this article for those of you who have been like me at one point- clueless about the quality of VS clothing products!

I came across Victoria’s Secret clothing while shopping for underwear on the VS site some years ago. After several purchases, returns, and exchanges of opinions with a few friends, I have come to some general conclusions about Victoria’s Secret clothing that I will share with you.

QUALITY

The quality of the Victoria’s Secret clothing is average. The tops and dresses are by no means of the same quality that you will get at Cache or Ann Taylor; however, the quality is definitely superior to that of the tops and dresses you will get at your local Walmart and Target stores. Victoria’s secret clothing made of the cotton/spandex material tends to retain its stretchiness with time; however, the color fades very quickly and after about your second or third wash, you will find yourself opting to wear your VS top or dress around the house as opposed to at the mall or at a party.

Most of the nighttime dresses have excellent quality that does not dwindle with time in any respect- the material retains its color and texture over time.

T-shirts and tops made out of 100% cotton tend to widen at the bottom after hours of being worn. I usually opt for the tops with the percentage of spandex for this reason.

The Victoria’s Secret leggings, pants, yoga & lounge wear, jeans and sweaters are of pretty good quality- no different from what you will get at Express, Bebe or Macy’s.

Size

The Victoria’s clothing line has the following sizing chart:

Generally, the clothing runs true to size. However, problems will arise if your bra cup size is a C or bigger. In this event you will find that most of your tops or dresses will fit you well, but there will be too much bust exposure. Some people with this problem opt for a size bigger, and then get the clothing altered with a sewing machine.

Price

Considering the price one pays for really good quality clothing, I will say that Victoria’s Secret clothing is well priced for the quality that one gets. The good thing about VS is that they frequently have sales and discounts on their clothing. If you wait a little, you can often end up paying less for the article of clothing that you have set your mind on.

Styles

The styles of most of Victoria’s secret clothing are simple, chic and timeless. As a matter of fact you will see many of the same styles year after year with some slight variations in embellishment. What I have noticed is that VS designers will make additions to their clothing line based on annual trends. For example in 2010, animal prints became popular, and some of their tops and dresses were made with animal- print material.

Recently, Victoria’s Secret has been offering more formal dresses. The styles of these dresses are usually effective but not over-the-top.

Colors

Usually, for every style of clothing that you select, you will have a wide variety of colors to choose from (including prints)- one of the things I absolutely love about VS clothing!

General Effect

Whether you are lounging, shopping, going to the beach or going on a dinner date, most of the VS clothing will grab you some attention. But, I will not lie to you- there is no special magic in the Victoria’s Secret clothing that will make you look good if you are out of shape. Like most other brands, the key to looking good in just about any article of clothing is to keep your body in tip top shape!
